A PROJECT WITH AND FOR VISUAL ARTISTS WITH DOWN SYNDROME (TORONTO AREA)

The National Film Board of Canada is looking for painters/sculptors/visual artists who have Down Syndrome in the Greater Toronto area to participate in a short animated film project this summer at the NFB’s Toronto Mediatheque. Four participants will be selected, and each will receive an honorarium of $1200 for the 6-week workshop (4 half-days a week for 6 weeks). Payment can be flexible in order not to jeopardize social assistance benefits.

WORKSHOP DATES: JUNE 18th -JULY 26th - MONDAYS-THURSDAYS, 10 AM-1PM

The selected artists will be interviewed about art, disability, life, and love, and then under the direction of a mentoring filmmaker and workshop facilitators from the NFB Mediatheque will create animated self-portraits through the process of an intensive film animation workshop. Incorporating these self-portraits, the final film created by Shira Avni will provide both a visual and auditory window into the lives, personalities, and talents of the artists.

Interested candidates should be over 21, have previous artistic experience, and be able to travel on their own to the Toronto Mediatheque 4 half-days a week (Monday to Thursday mornings, 10am - 1pm, from June 18th– July 26th). They must be Canadian citizens or have landed immigrant status.
